Privacy Policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Counterpoise Energy (“Counterpoise Energy,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you visit counterpoise.energy and use our services. We are an energy industry consultancy based in Washington, DC. We are not in the business of collecting personal data, and we design this site to gather as little of it as practical.
Information We Collect
- Site analytics. When you load a page, the site sends a small, first-party analytics record to our own server. That record contains the page path you viewed, the hostname of the site that referred you (if any), and any campaign parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) present in the link you followed. It does not include your name or contact details.
- Server logs. As with essentially any website, our hosting and security provider automatically logs standard technical request data, such as your IP address, browser user-agent, and the time of the request, to operate and protect the site.
- Client portal. Access to the client portal is restricted by email-based authentication. If you are an authorized client, we process your email address to send a one-time access code and to control who can sign in.
- Information you send us. If you email us or otherwise reach out, we receive whatever information you choose to include in that communication.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to operate, secure, and improve the site; to understand site traffic at an aggregate level; to provide and protect access to the client portal; and to respond to inquiries. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to serve third-party or cross-site advertising.
Cookies & Tracking
Our public pages do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The client portal and our security layer (Cloudflare) use strictly necessary cookies to authenticate authorized users and to protect the site against abuse; these are required for the portal to function and cannot be turned off while you use it.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of third-party providers to host, deliver, and secure the site — including our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare), which also powers the email-based authentication that protects the client portal, along with services that help deliver static assets such as web fonts. To perform these functions, such providers may process limited technical request data — for example, your IP address and browser request headers — on our behalf and under their own privacy terms. We do not use third-party advertising networks or cross-site tracking services.
Data Retention & Security
We keep analytics and server-log data only for as long as needed to understand site traffic and maintain security, and we retain client-portal records for as long as you remain an authorized client, after which we delete or anonymize them. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we hold, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live — for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To make a request, email us using the contact below; we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You can also limit data the site collects by using your browser’s privacy controls.
Changes & Contact
Counterpoise Energy is based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries; by using the site you understand your information may be handled there. We may update this policy from time to time, and the “last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision — material changes will be posted on this page.
